Legislative audits released today of the Montana University System came up clean and without criticism. After reviewing data for the fiscal year ending in June 2015, auditors saw no need for adjustments in how the universities handle their cash flow.
The audit comes as the University of Montana receives public criticism for cutting nearly 200 positions at the University. The University says it needs to reduce its budget by at least $12 million dollarsfor fiscal year 2017.
UM President Royce Engstrom thanked the audit committee for its confidence in the University's handling of its finances.
“We are very proud of that record and I think it indicates the sincere attention to fiscal responsibility at the University of Montana.”
The audit report also noted that UM’s enrollment has continued to decline in fiscal year 2015, losing about 400 students from the year before.
Over that same time Montana State University enrollment remained consistent.
