GMO Crops And Chemical Manufacturers' Profits

Dave Hitchborne

Greg and Jon follow up on a previous "Food Guys" show about a controversial study linking genetically-modified (GMO) corn to cancer in lab rats. This time they're onto the economic connection between GMO crops and the market for pesticides. Greg points out that "GMO seeds are a growth engine for the world's largest pesticide producers, because GMO crops drive up herbicide use."  Jon adds: "You start to think that the real point of this whole process is to sell more chemicals. That does not sound like a perfect agenda for better food; it seems to be quite the reverse. And the impact on children of a little bit of pesticide, because of their small body size, is much more severe than for adults."

(Broadcast: "The Food Guys," 11/2/14. Listen at 11:20 a.m. Sundays or via podcast.)
