Senate Approves East Rosebud Creek Protections

Wild and Scenic River Act
(PD)

A bill to give Wild and Scenic River Act protection to a section of East Rosebud Creek has passed the Senate.

The bi-partisan bill, co-sponsored by Montana Senators Jon Tester and Steve Daines, would protect 20 miles of the creek west of Columbus.

East Rosebud Creek originates in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and flows into the Yellowstone River. No private land will be affected by this legislation.

Congressman Greg Gianforte has introduced companion legislation in the House.

A press release from Montana’s senators says that of Montana's approximately 170,000 miles of rivers, less than one-half of one percent is designated as “wild and scenic.”
