Republican PSC Candidate Roger Koopman talks with MTPR Capitol Reporter Corin Cates-Carney.

Montana’s Public Service Commissioners have a lot of power. They regulate monopoly utility companies, meaning they have influence over people’s energy bills, as well as the environmental impact of Montana’s energy sources.

There are two seats on the five member Public Service Commission this year. This week, we’re hearing from the three people running for one of the seats. Those people are Republican incumbent Roger Koopman, Democrat Pat Noonan and Independent Caron Cooper.

They’re running for the District 3 seat representing southwest Montana.

Corin Cates-Carney manages MTPR’s daily and long-term news projects. After spending more than five years living and reporting across Western and Central Montana, he became news director in early 2020.
