University of Montana President Royce Engstrom says he’s expanding his cabinet, in response to comments from — and dialogue with — people in recent weeks.

Engstrom will be adding the leadership of the faculty, staff and student senates to his cabinet, starting in January.

The president has been under fire from some on campus after his November announcement that the University needs to cut 201 jobsto align its expenses with decreased revenue from several years of declining enrollment.

In a message to students, faculty and staff today, Engstrom says he is “quite certain that we will make the necessary faculty adjustments without eroding our core intellectual capacity, the tenure [and] tenure-track faculty.”

Engstrom says his administration will finalize the job cuts over the course of the next couple of weeks.
