And as it does, Vincent takes hold of a thread of that woolly blanket that is the night and begins to unravel it! He uses the thread to construct new images: a cat, a violin, musical notes that transform into flies...
After a while, he gets very good at it, and the pen and ink drawings morph from scribbles to more elaborate drawings until the baby Vincent is depicted 10 times over a two page spread, dressed variously as a magician, a parachutist, a cowboy, and a pirate.
When a pen and ink monkey finally hands him his bottle however, Vincent finally starts to get sleepy, and the detailed drawings sink back into scribbles until he is again depicted in his crib.
“The night is here.” And Vincent finally falls asleep.
