A group of Montana parents says lawsuits against the Environmental Protection Agency’s so-called “Clean Power Plan” are shortsighted and dangerous.
Montana Attorney General Tim Fox has joined 23 other states suing to stop the plan, which calls for Montana to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 47 percent by 2030.
A group called "Moms Clean Air Force" says the plan is based on sound law and science. Member Sarah Skoglund of Bozeman says it will help kids breathe healthier air.
"As a mom I want to think about what kind of world my 2-year-old son is going to grow up in. Climate change is a large threat to our health, our families, our communities. It's a massive threat to our planet and we should do everything in our power to fight climate change. Montana families need solutions, not lawsuits."
Attorney General Fox says he’s not passing judgment on whether the EPA’s plan sets reasonable targets, but says the agency is trying to use legislative power reserved for Congress.
Governor Bullock wants a stakeholder group to create Montana's own clean power plan. Bullock has expressed disappointment in the federal government's tougher air quality thresholds.
