Latest Evacuation News For West Fork Fish Creek Fire

The following information was posted to at 8:55 a.m. Sunday, August 30 to the federal government'sInciWeb site.

"Stage 3 evacuations are in place by the Mineral County Sheriff's office for Fish Creek Road south of Big Pine Fishing Access to the Mineral / Missoula County border line, Quartz Creek, McFarland, and Rivulet areas. Stage 2 evacuations are in place for Lower Fish Creek along I-90, Quartz Loop, Quartz Flat, Cyr, Tarkio and Sawmill areas. Preliminary evacuation notice is in effect along Petty Creek Road in Missoula County. Please contact Missoula County Sheriff’s office and Department of Emergency Services at (406)258-INFO."

Resources Assigned: A Type 1 Interagency Hotshot Crew, 2 Engines, 2 Water tenders, and 2 helicopters.

Closures: A large area closure is in place on the Ninemile Ranger District, Lolo National Forest. Closure includes all of the Ninemile Ranger District south of Interstate 90. Please see closure information on InciWeb.

Resources Threatened: Private homes and cabins in the Fish Creek drainage and at the Hole in the Wall Ranch. Lolo National Forest Developed Recreation sites including Clearwater Crossing Campground. Five structures have been confirmed as lost at the Forest Service Clearwater Crossing Administrative site; all private structures remain intact.

Current Status: The fire received nine tenths of an inch of rain overnight as night shift crew continued to monitor structure protection. Firefighters were disengaged from direct suppression efforts during the afternoon winds on Aug. 29th.

Hoselays and waterpumps were utilized to offer structure protection as needed.

Planned Actions: Changed weather conditions are expected to allow firefighters to better map the fire’s edge and to find opportunities to start addressing the fire directly in the northern and northeastern perimeters. Structure assessments in Petty Creek will continue.

Weather: Today’s temperature is predicted to be in the mid-sixties with a 40 percent chance of precipitation. Another cold front is expected this afternoon, with possible wind gusts to 30 mph.

The Lolo National Forest entered Stage II Fire Restrictions as of August 28, 2015.
