Warm Springs Productions was founded in 2008. Ten years later, they employ more than 130 people who produce 34 shows appearing on The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, HGTV, and more.

President and co-founder of the company Chris Richardson joins us to explain how he helped build the kind of company that he wanted to work at. Tune in now to learn about the positive side of making mistakes while starting up a company; how integral a curious staff can be to helping a business grow; and the opportunities that self-financing your startup can provide.

Richardson started out as a cameraman, finding his passion for being behind the lens in his last year of college at the University of Montana. After graduating, he traveled the world shooting outdoor specials and shows. When he and his wife found out they were going to have a baby, he decided to become a freelancer, which is, he reflects, how he learned to manage people. Eventually, at the age of 39, Richardson decided he wanted to create his own production company. From the beginning, he and his co-founder Marc Pierce self-financed Warm Springs Productions.
